I have a performance scheduled this Friday.  Normally my working band
consists of Craig Dawson on Drums, Kevin Freeby on Electric Bass, and
Ignacio Arango on Electric Guitar.  I really enjoy performing with these
musicians but sometimes our schedules do not match up.  Kevin and Ignacio
are unable to make Friday's performance.  I called guitarist Joey Courano to
see if he could do the gig.  Joey couldn't do it because he was already
booked but we did get a chance to talk about our children.

There is something very powerful about a man who really loves his children.  
After speaking with Joey for about 10 minutes I could see that he was such a
man.  He asked me considerate questions about my two sons and invited me
and my family out to Balboa Park.  He told me that some park museums are
free on Tuesday and they even have a special place for children to play with
toy trains.  While Joey spoke there was great enthusiasm in his voice. I
couldn't help but smile.  Again, it was clearly obvious to me that Joey cared a
great deal for his son and that he had a passion for fatherhood.

I must say that it was very refreshing to speak with a father who has such
passion for his children.  We live in a world where this has become a rarity.  
And while this can be saddening, I take light from the fact that there are
fathers out there like Joey Courano.  Indeed, with such fathers working hard to
raise their children, there will be a day when the rarity becomes the norm.  
And the world will be better for it.
