The hair on my head is interesting.  It seems to keep moving further and
further away from my forehead. Wow!  I’m going bald!!!

My hair first began to recede when I was a junior in college.  I think I was about
20 or 21 years old.  Hair had been important to me back then; before college I
had the stylish flat-top, and during college I kept it short most of the time but
also grew it out to sport cornrows.  I remember I was cutting my hair and I
noticed that my hair was beginning to thin near my forehead.  For the next few
months I kept a close eye on my hair.  But in the end, I came to the conclusion
that my hair was indeed receding.  At first I was distraught.  But then I
remembered my grandfather and how his hair had bladed on the top of his
head and how it had thinned on the sides.  His hairstyle was similar to
Captain Picard of the Starship Enterprise in the TV. Series “Star Trek The
Next Generation”.  By the way, John Luke Picard was a cool captain which
made my balding experience more bearable.

At some point I said to myself, what better way to embrace my genetic
makeup than to embrace my balding head.  This approach helped to alleviate
the fear and anxiety that I felt about going bald.  Instead of feeling down about
it, I decided to embrace the fact that my balding was reflective of the genetic
legacy blessed to me by my grandfather, and made cool by captain Picard.
