| I recall that a month before my family moved to our current residence, a powerful vision came to me in which Butchie had 3 paths at his feet. The first, was the path of change, a change in lifestyle. The second, was the path of arrest and subsequent incarceration. And the third, was the path of death. Upon receiving this vision I pleaded with Butchie; urging him to take the first path. But as fate would have it, Butchie chose all 3 paths; the last given manifestation through the unfortunate events taking place some 2 weeks ago. Butchie's death was tragic. I remember the week prior to his death I had stopped by to drop off some mail for my brother Royal. Butchie talked to me at length about the wonderful changes in his life. He was truly happy, attending community college, studying in the field of marine biology; a field that he spoke about with great excitement and passion. Butchie was indeed making great changes in his life. And yet, there was something strange about the last time I spoke with him. I recall that, upon entering the house, I heard a voice in my head that said "This is not a home, this is a tomb." Butchie died there in that house. Another occupant died as well. And another suffered a gun shot wound to the lower leg. My brother's life, by the grace of God, was spared. More humbling however, is the fact that this unfortunate event could have happened while my family lived there. Or while my mother was visiting or while any number of people were visiting. This is the interesting thing about events and time, they can pass slowly enough to miss us, fast enough to pass us, or at just the right time to catch us. Let us remember Butchie's joyful spirit. And let us give thanks for our opportunity to live. |
