When I was a child I had the ability to talk to animals.  I recall that I was able to
speak with my dogs by simply thinking a message in my mind while looking
into their eyes.  Sometimes my dogs would talk to me in the same manner.
Some might think that such an ability borders on fantasy or that it is some sort
of supernatural phenomena. But I will tell you that we all posses within us
wonderful abilities.  The beauty exists within the fact that when we accept our
innate abilities we can begin to come to higher levels of understanding about
the nature and value of all life.  My ability to speak with animals was the
precursor to my adoption of a vegan diet.

My experiences with my dogs, and with other animals as well, has allowed me
to think differently about the sentience of all animals and the meaning of their
life experience.  After many years I have come to the realization that all life, in
all of its forms, is equally valuable and that all life should be honored as such.

"Veganism" is one of the ways in which I am able to honor all life.  After all,
can it not be said that cows have families, that they have children, and that
they have a spirit just like you and me?  Can't this be said about all animals?
It is difficult for many to answer 'yes' to this question, especially given current
cultural norms about human beings; that the value of our lives is somehow
superior to all other life-forms on the planet.  Human life is no more valuable
than the life of a chicken, cow, or ant.  This revelation has made "veganism" a
positive lifestyle choice and has blessed my family with a great deal of love,
peace, and has fortified our appreciation for all life.
