| It is so interesting how this website came about. I recall that it was some 6 years ago when I first thought about establishing my own website. Back then I had very little knowledge about computers, the internet, or web design. Much has changed since then but I can honestly say that I have learned a very important lesson; that a person's goal or destination is never as important as the journey. This lesson can be applied to so many aspects of my life experience. For instance, I've always wanted to play the alto saxophone. But when I first began my formal music education I remember that my mother could not afford to buy me an alto saxophone. I really wanted to learn music and my mother understood this. It just so happened that my aunt Susan had a flute that she was not using at the time. I remember my mother saying, "Little Lenon, your Aunt has a flute that you can use until we can get you a saxophone." I was so disappointed. "I don't want to play the flute mom. Flutes are for girls," I cried. My mother gave me 'the look' and replied, "Boy, you wanted to play the saxophone but you are going to have to play the flute for now." The issue was settled, and though I was somewhat disturbed by the fact that I had to play the flute, it soon became clear to me that the flute was exactly what I needed. In fact, being given that flute was a major turning point in my life. The flute opened up so many doors for me. It allowed me to meet many wonderful people. It opened the door for me to attend college and provided me with many opportunities to travel. It shaped my sense of spirituality. But if I had been so fixed on my initial goal of playing the alto saxophone, would I have had the same life experiences? |
