My wife, two sons, and I are vegan.  "Vegan?", you ask.  Vegan is a term
given to people whose eating habits exclude the consumption of meat, meat
products, dairy, or any food products manufactured from animals or animal
parts.  There are many people who find our lifestyle choice to be strange.  But
our eating habits are reflective of our continued quest for higher levels of
peace in our lives.

Finding peace in ones' life can come through many paths.  Writing brings me
peace because it allows me to express my thoughts and ideas.  Hearing
silence brings me peace because silence allows me to hear and see things
that I would otherwise find difficult to receive.  Practicing music brings me
peace because it builds up my expressive proficiency and allows me the
space and time to evolve as a musician.  And I find that running errands with
my son brings me peace because the time that we share together allows him
to see the importance that I place on "handling" business for our family.

Peace is not always easy to find or maintain.  There are always life
occurrences that can challenge our peace efforts.  In my life I have found that a
vegan diet helps to maintain peace in my life.  There is something very
powerful about the vegan diet; a power that stems from the realization that all
life has value and that one may honor such value by choosing not to eat
animals.
