Musically, I am in a very challenging time period.  I feel somewhat lost, as if all
of my musical efforts lack focus.  I feel as if I have stretched myself out in too
many different directions.  Over the last 2 months I have had only a hand-full of
performances.  At a time when money is a constant concern for my family, the
lack of performance opportunities becomes all the more troublesome in that
my performance fees go a long way toward supporting my family.  Of course
there are musical cycles that all musicians must endure.  I respect this.
However, this current cycle is very unsettling.

I do know that I have taken somewhat of a detour in my musical path.  I spent
most of my life focusing on the flute. But over the last 4 years or so I have
moved in other musical directions; sometimes not even touching the flute for
months at a time.

Years ago I began to grow more and more disinterested in my flute playing;
the limitations of it, the functionality of it.  For some time I considered
changing my musical direction and when I finally did, I found myself
rejuvenated.

I began my detour by spending more time writing songs and producing music
using electric synthesizers (Korg Triton, Yamaha Motif).  I also began
performing on the alto saxophone; in performance settings I rarely take my
flute out; my instrument of choice is now the alto saxophone, followed by
vocals and keyboard.
